About this book
True Christianity is by Johann Arndt, whose title page calls it a treatise on sincere repentance, true faith and the holy walk of the true Christian. It gives the English translation by Rev. A. W. Boehm, published in London in 1712, in a new American edition of 1868 with additional matter from the original German and a general introduction by Charles F. Schaeffer.
The text is arranged in books, chapters and parts, with scripture references set in the prose. One passage on the life of Christ cites verses from John, Matthew and Ephesians and says we should learn from him and despise earthly pomp and greatness. Another speaks of the beauty God gives to human souls, and Part II of the Fourth Book opens with a chapter titled God, An Infinite And Eternal Being. A long string of phrases includes the bread of life, the Head of the church and the rock of salvation.
