About this book
The preface describes a translation, with some omissions, of a service book providing for what a Christian spiritually needs from the cradle to the grave. The appendix translates part of a service book devoted to the bishop’s holy service, specifically the portion pertaining to the laying on of hands. A funeral rite directs the priest to sprinkle the body and the coffin, inside and outside, with sanctified water before the body is laid within.
The funeral instructions describe carrying the remains to the church, with priests, deacons, and every clerk going before the body. The office for appointing an abbot directs a protodeacon, or two deacons, to conduct the candidate to the Archpriest in the middle of the church.
