About this book
The book is presented as a romance of ancient Egypt, translated from the German by Clara Bell. Ameni retains the spiritual authority acknowledged by the priesthood, and resists surrendering his control of the priests for a position at court.
The account of Ameni’s habits says that he spends eight days out of ten in the temple and two with his family across the Nile. The account of worship describes Ameni reaching the court’s middle and ascending an altar’s steps, where a vase containing a heart has been placed. Rameses finds Bent-Anat safe but distressed, while Kaschta runs in front of a burning pavilion, calling for his child and listening for an answer.
