About this book
Under Four Administrations, from Cleveland to Taft, gives the recollections of Oscar S. Straus. The title page describes the author as a member of the Permanent Court of Arbitration at The Hague, three times Minister and Ambassador to Turkey, and former Secretary of Commerce and Labor. The preface says the author is drawing these memories to a close in his log cabin in the primitive Maine woods, where his wife and he have been coming for rest and for fishing for the past twenty years.
The author says his brother left quite enthusiastically for the Georgia Military Academy to take his entrance examinations, but the incident there disgusted him so that he never returned to the academy. The author says that in 1863 the family moved to Columbus, Georgia. The author says he called another conference in February, 1909, to which he invited the leading labor representatives throughout the country, and about fifty attended.
