About this book
Venezuela by Leonard V. Dalton presents an account of the country with a map and illustrations, and an introductory acknowledgment of the continued courtesy and kindness shown during the author's stay. The description of the Banibas places their villages chiefly along the Guainia and Atabapo Rivers, with settlements extending into Brazil and Colombia. The account describes round, conical village huts made of poles covered with palm leaves, each containing twenty or thirty members of the same family.
The discussion of communications records existing steamer services along most of the natural routes under consideration, while describing those services as a modest beginning. The constitutional account records the abolition of the death penalty and imprisonment for debt, alongside the establishment of rights of meeting and a free press.
