About this book
Vera Nevill, or Poor Wisdom's Chance, is a novel by Mrs. H. Lovett Cameron. The contents list names, among others, The Vicar's Family, Kynaston Hall and Fanning Dead Ashes. An elder lady, in a few moments of offended silence, tugs fiercely and savagely at the ragged sock in her hands. A character named Vera says, stifling a yawn, that "when they are old, like Eustace, they are far better".
One woman stoops down and pats a little fox-terrier, calling it "Good dog, good little Vic". The text calls Mr. Guy Miller "a young gentleman who has not played an important part in these pages". Chapter XXXIV is headed A Garden Party.
