About this book

Book 8 of Vittoria lists chapter headings including, among others, Through the Winter, The Interview and The Last Meeting in Milan. The text says Weisspriess and Wilfrid made their way toward Milan together, silently smoking. Weisspriess says that, for his own part, he should quit Italy at once.

The text says Wilfrid was twirled and pushed through the crowd till he got free of them. The text says Merthyr turned and tried in vain to get a hearing among the excited, voluble men. The text mentions a promise from Carlo that he would not quit the house without granting an interview. The text says Merthyr counselled Laura that, in case of evil tidings during his absence, she should reject her feminine ideas of expediency.

About the author

George Meredith

George Meredith was an English novelist and poet of the Victorian era. At first, his focus was poetry, influenced by John Keats among others, but Meredith gradually established a reputation as a novelist. The Ordeal of Richard Feverel (1859) briefly scandalised Victorian literary circles.
