About this book

Voltaire's Romances, Complete in One Volume is a new edition of romances translated from the French, with numerous illustrations. A quoted line says a story should be founded on probability and not always resemble a dream, and that under the appearance of fable there may appear some latent truth, obvious to the discerning eye. A preface says Voltaire wrote what the people thought, and consequently his writings were universally read.

A white bull, dragging after him his chain and the old woman, reaches the princess, throws himself at her feet, kisses them and sheds tears. Amazan, on reaching the foot of the Pyrenees, is made by the magistrates and Druids of the country to dance, whether he would or not, a Tambourin. Pythagoras is stunned, bruised, and thrown down by a lot of tatterdemalions, who were running and crying.
