About this book
The Poet Assassinated is by Guillaume Apollinaire, and the title page says it is translated from the French with a biographical notice and notes by Matthew Josephson. The contents list gives chapter titles such as Renown, Procreation and Gestation, among others. The text names Alcools as a first collection of poems that appeared in 1913. The text says that in the summer of 1914 Apollinaire was in Deauville, surrounded by a cosmopolitan horde of Poles, Germans, Hungarians, Czechs and Russians when the Great War began.
The text says M. Layol is an excellent comedian and that Mlle Jeannine Letrou, a young star of tomorrow, has very pretty legs. A section headed THE THEATRE offers some subjects for plays, and one of them has the prince of San Meco finding a louse on his wife's head and making a scene. A chapter headed APOTHEOSIS says that, Croniamantal dead, Paponat brought Tristouse Ballerinette back to the hotel, where she relapsed into nervous fainting-spells.
