About this book
William Morris: A Critical Study is by John Drinkwater. A list headed Uniform with this volume gives, among others, J. M. Synge by P. P. Howe and Henrik Ibsen by R. Ellis Roberts. The book is dedicated to Ernest Newman, who loves the arts with a just and fine impatience. Drinkwater writes that whenever the discovery and the announcement are found together, then is poetry born, and at no other time.
Drinkwater adds that verse seems to him to be the only fitting form for poetry, and says the term prose-poem seems to be an abomination. Drinkwater writes that nationally we acclaim the negative and neglect the positive manifestations of man.
