About this book
Wilmot and Tilley is by James Hannay. The contents list chapters on Lemuel Allan Wilmot called Ancestry and Early Life, Early Efforts for Reform, Wilmot in the Legislature and Wilmot as a Delegate to the Colonial Office.
The text says that in 1825 all the lumbermen in the province were ruined, and that it was then that young Wilmot resolved to enter upon a political career. Wilmot's ambition was to become a public man and to assist in the reformation of the constitution of his native province. At the general election of 1850 all the candidates elected for the city and county of St. John were avowed opponents of the government, and Tilley was returned at the head of the poll. Sir Leonard Tilley was first married in 1843 to Julia Ann, daughter of the late James T. Hanford, and in 1867 he married Alice Starr, daughter of the late Z. Chipman, of St. Stephen.
