Adi Rule
Adi Rule writes imaginative teen fantasy that joins mythic settings with protagonists searching for a voice and a chosen identity. The Hidden Twin follows an unnamed girl kept out of public view because she may be a redwing, a figure feared in her society's mythology. When she exchanges places with her visible twin, dormant power and political unrest force her to decide who she will become. The novel arrived from St. Martin's Griffin in March 2016, after Rule's debut Strange Sweet Song. Reviews highlight the book's dry humor, women in supporting roles, and a setting where ancient ritual coexists with technology. Rule studied music, earned an MFA from Vermont College of Fine Arts, and has sung with the Tanglewood Festival Chorus. In The Hidden Twin, however, the governing rhythm is adventure, with sisterhood and self-naming providing the emotional line. The result is a standalone fantasy whose central transformation concerns authorship of one's identity as much as supernatural ability.
