Allen Steele is a science fiction writer whose early novels helped define a detailed near-future history of work and settlement beyond Earth. Clarke County, Space is part of that sequence, depicting an orbital community shaped by political tensions, technological limits, and the practical demands of living off-world. Time Loves a Hero approaches the future through temporal disruption: a traveler sent to observe the Hindenburg disaster accidentally creates a timeline in which the airship lands safely, leaving later characters to confront the consequences. Open Road Media published the latter title as Steele's preferred version of a novel previously known as Chronospace, itself expanded from the Hugo-winning novella “...Where Angels Fear to Tread.” Steele began as a journalist, published his first story in 1988, and has since written more than twenty novels. His honors include Hugo, Locus, Seiun, and Robert A. Heinlein awards. Whether building an orbital town in Clarke County, Space or repairing history in Time Loves a Hero, he treats speculative settings as functioning societies whose choices have material costs.
