Author: Amy Bloom

In Love: A Memoir of Love and Loss covers the ten months between an Alzheimer's diagnosis and a January 2020 morning in Zürich. The patient was Amy Bloom's second husband, the architect Brian Ameche, who decided early that he did not want the slow version of the illness and asked her to help him reach Dignitas, the Swiss organisation that arranges accompanied dying. Bloom, born in 1953, holds a master's in social work from Smith College and practised for two decades as a clinical social worker, seeing patients, before writing took over. Come to Me was a National Book Award finalist in 1993 and A Blind Man Can See How Much I Love You a National Book Critics Circle finalist. She taught at Yale and is writer in residence at Wesleyan University.
