Wheels of Life appeared in 1987 and laid the seven-chakra system of Indian yogic tradition over a Western psychological map; it has since been translated into more than twenty languages. Eastern Body, Western Mind (1996) pushed the idea further, matching each chakra to a stage of childhood development and to a cluster of therapeutic problems. Anodea Judith was born Judith Ann Mull in Elyria, Ohio, in 1952. Her qualifications are worth stating exactly: a master's in clinical psychology from Rosebridge Graduate School, and a doctorate in health and human services from Columbia Pacific University, a California distance-learning school that was state-approved but never accredited and was ordered shut by a California court in 1999. She kept a private therapy practice for about twenty years, was ordained through the Church of All Worlds in 1985 and led it from 1986 to 1993. She directs Sacred Centers, which sells her courses and teacher trainings, and she teaches at retreat centres including Kripalu and Omega.
