Not Buying It (Seal Press, 2016) argues that much of what parents buy for their children returns nothing, and that some of it does quiet damage: the enrichment toys, the tutoring, the larger house bought for its school district. Brett Graff makes the case as a former economist at the US Bureau of Labor Statistics who now writes the syndicated column The Home Economist, which appears first in the Miami Herald and then goes out through Tribune Content Agency. She is a reporter and an economist rather than a licensed financial adviser, and sells no investment product alongside the advice.
