Brian G. Buckmire

Brian G. Buckmire is a public defender, legal commentator, and writer whose courtroom experience informs his fiction for young readers. Come Home Safe, published by Blink in 2023, follows siblings Reed and Olive after ordinary travel across New York turns into a tense encounter with law enforcement. The alternating viewpoints let the siblings interpret the same events differently while confronting questions about profiling, family trust, and legal rights. Buckmire has worked as a trial attorney in New York and has explained legal proceedings for national television audiences, giving the novel a clear grounding in how institutions and individual choices interact. Come Home Safe marks his fiction debut and addresses teen readers, but its family relationship carries equal weight with its civic subject. Reed and Olive must rely on what they know about each other while trying to return safely to the people waiting for them.
