C. Dale Brittain
C. Dale Brittain combines a career in medieval history with fantasy fiction shaped by a light, inventive view of the Middle Ages. Her first published novel in the sequence was A Bad Spell in Yurt, originally issued by Baen, and she continued the royal wizard Daimbert’s adventures across six main novels. The Witch & the Cathedral brings the sequence to its fourth installment, while Is This Apocalypse Necessary? closes the original run as its sixth book. Brittain later recovered the rights to earlier volumes, issued new editions, and added related novellas and a next-generation Yurt series. Her essays move easily between medieval history, publishing history, and the craft of fantasy, showing how academic research and comic storytelling can occupy the same imaginative territory. Brittain notes that the original A Bad Spell in Yurt became a national science fiction and fantasy bestseller and remains her strongest seller.
