Carlos Borrego is a Portuguese environmental engineer, academic, and former environment minister whose work connects atmospheric science with public policy. Air Pollution Modeling and its Application XVII, co-edited with Ann-Lise Norman, collects research from the continuing international meetings on air-pollution modelling and was published by Springer. The volume addresses tools used to understand emissions, atmospheric transport, urban air quality, and the effects of policy choices. Borrego joined the University of Aveiro faculty and later became professor emeritus of environmental engineering. He also served as Portugal’s Minister for Environment and Natural Resources, as a university vice-rector, and in leadership roles linking environmental research with government and society. His scholarship has included air-quality assessment, climate action, sustainable cities, and the use of modelling in decision-making. Air Pollution Modeling and its Application XVII reflects that combination of scientific and institutional experience, bringing together technical contributions intended for researchers, regulators, and practitioners working across national boundaries.
