Charles Ingrid
Charles Ingrid names the speculative-fiction work of American writer Rhondi A. Vilott Salsitz. Under this byline, she created the six-volume Sand Wars sequence for DAW Books, beginning with Solarkill in 1987. DAW released Return Fire during 1989 in fifth position, after Alien Salute and before Challenge Met. The series follows military and political conflict across an interstellar setting, with recurring characters and consequences carrying between volumes. Kansas archival records identify Return Fire explicitly as Sand Wars number five, while the Science Fiction Encyclopedia connects the Charles Ingrid name to Salsitz and records the original DAW publication. Salsitz also wrote fantasy under her own name, including the Dragons Trilogy and Unicorn Dancer books, making the Ingrid novels one part of a broader genre career. Return Fire is therefore best understood through both identities: it belongs to the Charles Ingrid bibliography presented to science-fiction readers, but its author also developed separate fantasy sequences as Rhondi A. Vilott Salsitz.
