Author: David Weber
David Weber came to fiction through wargaming. He worked on the tabletop space combat game Starfire, and the setting became a novel sequence written with Steve White, of which Crusade (1992) is one: an unidentified ship fires on Orion vessels using old Terran recognition codes, and the Terran Federation and the Khanate of Orion end up at war with the Thebans, a theocracy convinced it must liberate Holy Terra. Weber was born in Cleveland on 24 October 1952, studied at Warren Wilson College in North Carolina, took an MA in history at Appalachian State University and ran a small advertising and public relations firm before fiction became the job. On Basilisk Station launched Honor Harrington in 1993, a starship captain modelled on the Napoleonic sea stories of C. S. Forester, and that series grew past a dozen novels. Bolo! (2005) gathers four short novels, among them Miles to Go and The Traitor, set in the universe of self-aware armoured fighting vehicles that Keith Laumer created and Weber carried on after Laumer's death. He lives in Greenville, South Carolina, with his wife Sharon, and is a lay speaker in the United Methodist Church.
