📚 1 Book ✍️ History 📄 PDF & EPUB

Christy Jordan-Fenton is a Canadian writer whose family collaborations preserve Margaret-Olemaun Pokiak-Fenton’s memories of Inuvialuit childhood and residential schooling. A Stranger at Home recounts Margaret’s return to Tuktoyaktuk after two years away, when her mother initially fails to recognize her and the language and customs of home have become unfamiliar. Written with Margaret and illustrated by Liz Amini-Holmes, it continues the account begun in Fatty Legs and presents a family-centered view of cultural disruption and recovery. Jordan-Fenton later adapted the two memoirs as When I Was Eight and Not My Girl. Together, the four books have received multiple literary honours while preserving this intergenerational story.
