Claire Fontaine
Claire Fontaine shares authorship with her daughter Mia Fontaine in Have Mother, Will Travel, a memoir about movement and a changing family bond. Their earlier joint book, Come Back, dealt with a period of crisis; this later journey examines how a mother and grown daughter can remain close without returning to old roles. China, Nepal, and parts of Europe challenge their different habits and expose contrasting interpretations of the same days. William Morrow published the book in 2012 under both women's names. Alternating viewpoints give irritation, affection, and discovery equal room, preventing either traveler from controlling the entire account. In Have Mother, Will Travel, collaboration is both method and subject. Claire contributes a mother's perspective to a shared narrative of generational change, difficult candor, and the practical adjustments required when love does not erase difference.
