Author: Cortney Burns

Cortney Burns is a chef, author, and culinary consultant whose work connects preservation, place, and memory. Nourish Me Home grew from her move from California to western Massachusetts and organizes recipes around elemental ideas, seasonal ingredients, and the practical value of a well-stocked larder. Chronicle Books published the cookbook in 2020 under the fuller title Nourish Me Home: 125 Soul-Sustaining, Elemental Recipes. Burns previously shared the kitchen at San Francisco's Bar Tartine with Nick Balla. Their collaborative Bar Tartine: Techniques and Recipes received awards from the James Beard Foundation and the International Association of Culinary Professionals. Her unusual training included cultural anthropology and South Asian studies at Wisconsin-Madison, travel in Nepal and India, professional cooking in Australia, and restaurant work across the United States. In Nourish Me Home, those experiences inform vegetable-forward dishes, fermented components, drinks, condiments, and stories about migration and regional food traditions. The result is both a working cookbook and a record of how cooking can create belonging after a move.
