David F. Tolin
Hoarding was not a diagnosis of its own until 2013, and Buried in Treasures came out eleven years before that shift, written for the person doing the sorting rather than the clinician. David F. Tolin wrote it with Randy O. Frost and Gail Steketee, the two researchers whose work put the problem on a scientific footing, and Oxford University Press has kept it in print through revisions. It is a workbook: exercises on deciding, on tolerating the discomfort of letting go, on why acquiring feels urgent. Tolin directs the Anxiety Disorders Center at the Institute of Living in Hartford and is an adjunct professor at the Yale School of Medicine.
