David Yow works across music, acting, and visual art and is best known as the vocalist for Scratch Acid and the Jesus Lizard. Copycat collects his playful cat portraits, each built around a verbal pun and assembled from line drawing, photographic texture, and staged backgrounds. Akashic Books issued the collection in 2014 under the fuller title Copycat: And a Litter of Other Cats. The project reveals a quieter visual practice beside Yow's confrontational stage presence: the images depend on careful composition and affectionate observation even when the jokes are deliberately silly. He later coauthored The Jesus Lizard Book with fellow band members, combining photographs, artifacts, and commentary from the group's history. Yow has also acted in independent films and continued exhibiting visual work. Copycat therefore belongs to the art side of a multidisciplinary career rather than functioning as a music memoir. Its compact portraits translate his taste for abrupt surprise into a medium where a cat, a pun, and an unexpected texture can carry the entire performance.
