E. Paul Zehr is a neuroscientist, kinesiology professor, science communicator, and martial artist whose books test superhero ideas against the capacities of the human body. Inventing Iron Man uses Tony Stark's powered armour to examine brain-machine interfaces, neural plasticity, physical conditioning, and the strain an integrated exoskeleton could place on its wearer. The 2011 Johns Hopkins University Press edition identifies Warren Ellis as its foreword writer. Zehr brought an established research background in movement and rehabilitation to this popular-science project. The University of Victoria described the book as an inquiry into both the engineering challenge of a real Iron Man suit and the biological consequences for the person inside it.
