Emily Adrian
Emily Adrian moves between novels, memoir, and literary journalism while exploring ambition, family life, reputation, work, and the identities people perform for one another. Like It Never Happened, her 2015 debut from Dial Books, follows high-school actor Rebecca Rivers as a close theater group, a stage romance, and damaging rumors collide. The novel uses rehearsals and performance to examine truth, loyalty, and the social roles assigned to teenage girls. Adrian later wrote another young-reader novel, The Foreseeable Future, before moving into fiction for older readers with Everything Here Is Under Control and The Second Season. Her memoir Daughterhood and later novel Seduction Theory continue her interest in intimate relationships shaped by institutions and expectations. Adrian’s work has also appeared in Granta, Joyland, The Point, EPOCH, and the Los Angeles Review of Books. Across genres, she writes closely observed characters whose private uncertainties often sit beneath polished public roles.
