Emily Lloyd-Jones
A vineyard in rural Oregon is where Emily Lloyd-Jones grew up, among evergreen forest and, as she tells it, sheep worth being wary of. She read English at Western Oregon and an MA in publishing at Rosemont College, then spent six years as a bookseller and children's book buyer. The Bone Houses (2019) borrows from Welsh folklore: Ryn digs graves in the mountain village of Colbren, where the buried have a habit of getting up again, and heads into the range with Ellis, an apprentice mapmaker, to find the root of the curse behind it. Her other work for teenagers includes the Illusive duology and The Hearts We Sold, and for younger readers Unseen Magic and Unspoken Magic. The Drowned Woods, also built on Welsh legend, won the English-language Tir na n-Og Award in 2023.
