About this book
An Extract out of Josephus's Discourse to The Greeks Concerning Hades is by Flavius Josephus and is translated by William Whiston. The writer says that Hades is a place in the world not regularly finished, a subterraneous region where the light of this world does not shine, so that there must be perpetual darkness in it. The discourse describes a place set apart as a lake of unquenchable fire, into which, it says, "we suppose" no one has yet been cast.
The just, who shall obtain an incorruptible and never-fading kingdom, are now confined in Hades, but not in the same place as the unjust. The writer says that all men, the just as well as the unjust, shall be brought before God the word, to whom the Father hath committed all judgment, and that he shall come as Judge, whom we call Christ. The writer also says it is a good thing not to sin at all, and good, having sinned, to repent.
