Frances Stroh

Frances Stroh combines memoir and visual art in work shaped by her family history. Beer Money became her account of that inheritance. Subtitled a memoir of privilege and loss, the book traces the rise and collapse of Detroit’s Stroh Brewery alongside the private strains within the family that owned it. Stroh writes from the unusual position of an heir who witnessed both abundance and decline, but she broadens the story through reporting on the company, the city, and several generations of relatives.
