Gary Russell

Gary Russell wrote The Art of The Fellowship of the Ring, a companion to Peter Jackson's film rather than to Tolkien's novel: it collects the conceptual paintings, the costume and creature designs and the set drawings that Alan Lee, John Howe and the Weta workshops produced, with the artists explaining their decisions. His main career is elsewhere. He edited Doctor Who Magazine from 1992 to 1995, ran Big Finish Productions as executive producer from 1998 to 2006, building its audio dramas into a serious line, and then joined the revived television series as a script editor, working on Torchwood and The Sarah Jane Adventures as well. He had been a child actor before any of that.
