H. Harvey was the publishing form used by Hezekiah Harvey, an American Baptist minister, teacher, and religious biographer who lived from 1821 to 1893. He taught biblical criticism, interpretation, and pastoral theology, combining scholarship with the practical concerns of ministry. Memoir of Alfred Bennett appeared in 1852 and traces the life of the first pastor of the Baptist church in Homer, New York. Bennett later served as a senior agent of the American Baptist Missionary Union, giving the biography a wider view of church organization and missionary advocacy. Harvey also delivered a discourse on Bennett's life and character that survives in the American Baptist Historical Society collections. His book presents Bennett's pastoral service as an example for a denominational readership while preserving details about congregational development and organized mission work. Memoir of Alfred Bennett therefore shows Harvey working both as a theologian and as a chronicler of Baptist institutional memory in the mid-nineteenth century.
