Isaac Landman was an American rabbi, editor, and educator who wrote for younger audiences while building major reference works on Jewish life and history. Stories of the Prophets presents the biblical figures before the exile through connected narratives about public responsibility, moral courage, and the social world of ancient Israel. The volume was prepared for the Commission on Jewish Education of the Union of American Hebrew Congregations and the Central Conference of American Rabbis; David Philipson contributed the foreword. Its chapters move from Amos and Hosea through Isaiah, Micah, and Jeremiah, combining storytelling with brief historical framing. Landman later became closely associated with the Universal Jewish Encyclopedia, serving as its editor and helping shape a ten-volume English-language reference project.
