Heinrich Heine was a German poet and prose writer whose lyric clarity, political criticism, and irony made him a figure of nineteenth-century literature. Born in Düsseldorf and educated in law, he settled in Paris in 1831, writing about French and German culture for readers on both sides of the border. Aikarunoja is a Finnish selection of his poems translated by Hilja Liinamaa-Pärssinen, showing how Heine's verse entered Finnish literary tradition.
