Hope Jahren

Jahren is a geobiologist who studies fossil forests and what stable isotopes in ancient plant matter say about past climates, work she has run in laboratories she largely built herself on very little money. Lab Girl braids that with a life: an emotionally silent Minnesota childhood, a long working partnership with Bill Hagen, and manic episodes she sets down without softening, including one during pregnancy when she was barred from her own lab. The Story of More is a short reckoning with consumption and emissions. She has also written about sexual harassment in field science.
