Imogen Edwards-Jones
Imogen Edwards-Jones moves between journalism and fiction that enters distinctive professional or historical worlds. The Witches of St. Petersburg is her historical novel about the Montenegrin princesses Militza and Anastasia at the court of Nicholas II. Bloomsbury's Head of Zeus edition describes the sisters' influence on Tsarina Alexandra and their role in introducing Rasputin to the imperial circle. Edwards-Jones studied Russian at the University of Bristol, giving the setting a clear connection to her academic background as well as her later work as a novelist. Published in 2018, the book combines documented Romanov figures with imagined private scenes, moving through court luxury, mysticism, political instability, and the approach of revolution. Its focus is not simply Rasputin, but the ambitious sisters whose place in that familiar history is less often foregrounded. The Witches of St. Petersburg by Imogen Edwards-Jones therefore fits her interest in revealing the systems, alliances, and private pressures operating behind a glittering public world.
