Jenny Tinghui Zhang

Jenny Tinghui Zhang approaches migration, identity, art and inherited stories through fiction and essays. Four Treasures of the Sky, her first novel, follows Daiyu from a calligraphy school in China to the American West during the Chinese Exclusion era. The title refers to the traditional tools of calligraphy, an art that shapes the novel’s language and its central character’s changing sense of self. Zhang completed an MFA at Wyoming, and her nonfiction and criticism have appeared in The Cut, Foreign Policy and Texas Highways. The National Book Foundation selected her for its 5 Under 35 program. Her second novel, Superfan, published in 2026, examines fandom, ambition and memory through a Chinese American college freshman and music fan, alongside the viewpoint of a boy-band member.
