Katherine Heiny
Katherine Heiny sold her first story, How to Give the Wrong Impression, to The New Yorker in 1992, then spent five years ghostwriting teen series fiction under pen names, more than twenty books at a rate of one every two months by her own account. Her own name did not appear on a book until the collection Single, Carefree, Mellow in 2015. Early Morning Riser, from 2021, is set in Boyne City, Michigan, where Heiny and her husband kept a house for twenty years; it follows Jane, a schoolteacher who arrives in 2002 and falls for a woodworker with a great deal of local history behind him.
