Leah Johnson

You Should See Me in a Crown puts a Black queer girl in a small Indiana town into a prom court campaign, because the crown carries a scholarship she needs and there is no other way to pay, and it became the first young adult novel picked for Reese Witherspoon's book club. Johnson grew up in Indianapolis and has published two more novels and a series for younger readers since. In 2023 she opened a bookshop in the city called Loudmouth Books, stocked deliberately around titles being pulled out of American school libraries, several of them her own.
