📚 1 Book ✍️ Fiction Books 📄 PDF & EPUB

Lennox Amott was an English poet, born in 1861 and deceased in 1909, whose known work is closely tied to a single late Victorian collection. Farncombe and Company issued The Minstrel at Lewes in 1883. The volume gathers a long narrative poem with shorter lyrics on nature, friendship, memory, family feeling, and music. Its extended section, “Midsummer Idylls,” had appeared earlier in another form; Amott explains in the preface that he revised its first canto with particular attention to iambic measure. The book is dedicated to Harold Matthews and carries a Virgilian epigraph, signals of the literary traditions within which Amott placed his verse. The Minstrel belongs to nineteenth-century English poetry. Its formal preface and contents show a poet attentive to meter, literary inheritance, local memory, and lyric address. The original edition remains the central surviving example of his work.
