Author: Maggie Stiefvater

Born Heidi Hummel in Harrisonburg, Virginia in 1981, she changed her first name to Margaret at sixteen and writes as Maggie Stiefvater. Home-schooled from sixth grade, she had finished some thirty manuscripts by eighteen, took a history degree at Mary Washington College and paid her way as an equestrian portrait artist before Lament sold in 2008. Shiver arrived the next year, the Mercy Falls story of Grace and a boy who spends his winters as a wolf, and it held a place on the New York Times list for over forty weeks. The Scorpio Races was named a Printz Honor book. Her Raven Cycle put Blue Sargent among four Aglionby boys, and in The Dream Thieves (2013) Ronan Lynch turns out to be able to pull objects out of his sleep; Ronan then carried the Dreamer Trilogy, which opens with Call Down the Hawk (2019). Bravely (2022) was written for Disney, a return to Merida of Brave, who is given one year to change her family or lose them. Stiefvater composes and records music for her own audiobooks and plays the bagpipes. She lives in Virginia's Shenandoah Valley.
