Mayra Calvani
Mayra Calvani is a Puerto Rican writer, reviewer, and workshop teacher whose work spans fiction, children’s books, and guidance for writers. She co-wrote The Slippery Art of Book Reviewing with Anne K. Edwards as a practical examination of how reviewers can be clear, fair, informed, and tactful. The book addresses preparation, critical standards, common mistakes, rating systems, and the responsibilities involved in judging another writer’s work. Calvani studied creative writing and Western literature and has lived in several countries, experiences reflected in a varied publishing career instead of one genre. She has written gothic and suspense fiction as well as children’s literature, while her reviews and articles have appeared widely in print and online publications. The Slippery Art of Book Reviewing brings those editorial and authorial perspectives together. Its focus is not simply on expressing an opinion, but on explaining that opinion accurately enough to help readers while treating the reviewed work with professional care.
