Michael Robotham

1960

Michael Robotham wrote about fifteen autobiographies for other people before he put his own name on a book, and twelve of them reached the Sunday Times bestseller lists. Born in Casino, New South Wales, in 1960, he took a cadetship on the Sydney afternoon paper The Sun in 1979, covered courts and police rounds for the Sydney Morning Herald, moved to London in 1986 and rose to deputy features editor at The Mail on Sunday. Among the books he wrote for others is Margaret Humphreys's Empty Cradles, on Britain's child migrant scheme. The Suspect, published in 2004, introduced the clinical psychologist Joe O'Loughlin and ran to nine books. Robotham has taken the Crime Writers' Association Gold Dagger twice, for Life or Death in 2015 and Good Girl, Bad Girl in 2020, while When She Was Good won the Ian Fleming Steel Dagger in 2021. When You Are Mine (2021) started a fresh strand around Philomena McCarthy, a London constable with a criminal family behind her. He lives in Sydney.
