Mike Carey is a British writer of novels, comics, and screenplays who publishes much of his prose fiction as M. R. Carey. The Book of Koli opens the Rampart Trilogy, an Orbit series set in a distant future where isolated communities live among dangerous landscapes and remnants of technology they only partly understand. Koli's first-person account gives the novel its distinctive rhythm as he moves beyond the boundaries of Mythen Rood. Carey's wider career includes novels, radio drama, screenplays, and work for DC and Marvel, so the trilogy joins speculative fiction with the long-form storytelling skills developed across several media.
