N. S. Talbot
N. S. Talbot was the publishing name of Neville Stuart Talbot, an Anglican clergyman, military chaplain, writer, and later Bishop of Pretoria. His earlier army experience preceded ordination and helped shape his work with soldiers during the First World War. Thoughts on religion at the front, written amid that conflict and published in 1917, asks how Christian belief was understood and practiced among troops. Rather than offering a conventional campaign narrative, Talbot reflects on courage, sacrifice, institutional religion, and the gap between formal language and lived conviction. He also helped establish Talbot House in Poperinge with fellow chaplain Philip Clayton.
