Nick Gevers is a South African editor, critic, and anthologist whose work has helped map contemporary science fiction and fantasy across books, short fiction, and international publishing. He has edited original anthologies as well as collections devoted to individual writers, often bringing established voices together around a sharply defined speculative idea. Other Earths, co-edited with Jay Lake and published in 2009, gathers eleven original stories about alternate histories and divergent worlds. Contributors include Stephen Baxter, Robert Charles Wilson, Theodora Goss, Lucius Shepard, and Gene Wolfe, giving the volume approaches that range from political counterfactuals to intimate changes in personal reality. Gevers and Lake frame alternate history broadly, allowing the stories to ask not only what might have happened differently but how another world would feel to those living inside it. The anthology reflects Gevers's wider editorial interest in ambitious speculative fiction, varied literary styles, and conversations between science fiction's historical traditions and newer writers.
