Oliver Huckel

Oliver Huckel served as an American Congregationalist minister and writer who interpreted religion, literature, and music for general readers. Parsifal presents Richard Wagner’s Grail drama in English poetic form, reflecting Huckel’s sustained interest in Wagner and his belief that the opera carried Christian meanings. The Larger Life, subtitled A Book of the Heart, belongs to his devotional writing and was published in Baltimore in 1900. Huckel studied in Berlin and Oxford during the 1890s, experience that supported his later work on European music and religious thought. His bibliography also includes adaptations connected with Lohengrin and the Mastersingers, as well as addresses on conscience and spiritual health.
