Silas M. Andrews was a nineteenth-century Presbyterian minister whose religious writing joined family practice with church teaching. Born Silas Milton Andrews in 1805, he is credited as the Reverend Silas M. Andrews on the 1840 Philadelphia edition of The Sabbath at Home. The short work had already appeared in Presbyterian tract collections and carries an 1836 copyright notice. Andrews addresses Christian households rather than entering a doctrinal dispute about which day to observe. He recommends preparing ordinary work in advance, keeping the family together, attending public worship when possible, and using time at home for Scripture, prayer, song, catechism, reflection, and care for others. The Sabbath at Home also connects private routine with communal religious responsibility, arguing that one household member's choices can shape the day for everyone. Andrews died in 1881. His tract remains the work most directly associated with his name because it turns a broad theological principle into detailed guidance for domestic life.
