About this book
A Book for All Readers is by Ainsworth Rand Spofford, designed as an aid to the collection, use, and preservation of books and the formation of public and private libraries. The contents list chapters titled The Choice of Books, Book Buying, The Art of Book Binding, The Enemies of Books and The Art of Reading. The contents also list chapters titled Qualifications of Librarians, The History of Libraries and Library Buildings and Furnishings.
The text says that at one time a list of authors was made out, many of whose works were deemed objectionable, either from their highly sensational character or their bad style. The text calls such a black list obviously open to the charge of doing great injustice to the good repute of writers named, since only a part of the works written by some of them can properly be objected to. Every librarian, the text says, must indispensably know how to get rid of bores.
